The mind is so interesting. I have always found specific songs somehow attach themselves to a person, a place, or maybe a time. I could be driving, a song comes up and bang, there’s that memory. Or just a song comes to mind and it happens, or I hear a song on a store speaker. It is not a conscious act me making it so, but the way the mind puts a placeholder, connecting songs to something in my past. Is that the same with everyone? I suspect so but I’ve never asked. I think offhand there may be around 20 songs that this happens with, evenly spread across people, places, or a time. As I’m writing this, actually putting my mind to it, it seems to me that these connections probably represent an important snapshot to something meaningful in my life. You think so? I graduated from high school in Jamaica. Jamaica College for boys, and I recall our sister school was Saint Andrews. All the young people I had known seem like small compared to those I knew about, but never really got to know. So many worlds there were in such a small, but marvelous place to grow up. Yet how much I do remember all the faces, places; from little villages, to beaches, parties or “spots” they called them, playing soccer, roaming all over, meeting people, and of course, school. So many “firsts” in my life, sub-culture of Rastafarians etc. Forever young to have lived and loved an island so much. One Love! (click the TITLE to view or make a comment)

So I got to thinking today about our little planet, like as if it were a puppy or kitten. So it started off all cuddly and all that, green grass, clear skies; I’m talking about like, recent, after dinosaurs, ice age, and the like. So humans have this knack for wars, dominating, exploring, killing needlessly. So where does this all lead? What about our children’s children? We really have to think about preserving this home we have. Each of us can make a difference, so I’m going to try a little harder, do my part too. It’s true, one of the most exciting things you can do in your life is spending time with yourself. For context, I mean in the sense that I’ve managed to spend time writing and producing music, have been slowly creating a website (yeah, about one week now till I make it official), and since about a week have been teaching myself AI (artificial intelligence) from open source material. You know, when I was 15 years old I thought 30 was the end of the world, then when I was 30 I thought 50 would be like it’s all over! Well, what I’ve learned is that when we look back, what we really realize, is that things we thought we were too old to do or didn’t have time for, 15 years later we now know is that we always have time. Sure, you get to see places and have new experiences. But really, the real value of traveling is finding yourself, learning more about who you are. Yeah, you know who you are, but isn’t it great when meeting a person really far away, and getting feedback from them, positively, and they see you just as the person you believe you to be? That is awesome, so different from the grocery store, pharmacy, workplace, where you see people every day, get used to just mingling. You really see your value when you travel, how people respond to you, the 5-second initial impression you make, how people see you. You know, the great Plato once said, “watch a man at play for an hour, and you learn more about him than in speaking with him for a lifetime”. (or something like that). If life is the sum of all you have done, then your job is to put all you have done into a box, a museum, a scrapbook, even a website. That’s what I have done.
